Panerai Luminor Submersible Antimagnetic PAM1389

In many ways, Panerai is one of the most approachable watch brands thanks to their wide range of variations. This Luminor Submersible 1389 delivers the highly desirable Panerai look whilst also introducing another staple of the diving watch world, a rotating bezel.

Measuring a brand standard 47mm in width, the case is made from brushed titanium that aids wearability tenfold. The cushion case features thick straight lugs, the recognizable-across-a-room lever-set crown lock, as well as a matching rotating bezel. Suitably restrained in its design, the bezel mirrors the personality found throughout the 1389 with rounded markers consistently throughout. This bezel design calls back to early Radiomir models that also featured a rotating bezel. Of course, the real headliner with a Panerai is its dial and the PAM 1389 truly doesn’t disappoint. Featuring a small seconds sub-dial at nine o’clock and on the opposite side is a matching black date window. The markers are all easily legible ticks that make for easy reading from the lume-filled, semi-skeletonized hands that steadily sweep overhead and determine the running time.

Panerai’s diving accolades and toughness speaks for itself thanks to the brand’s impressive history. The Submersible offers a twist on this rich, military-focused past by introducing various different manufacturing techniques as well as a rotating bezel to the classic Panerai cushion style case. Although the likes of the Luminor and Radomir provide both practicality and versatile performance, the Submersible is more of a tough, decisive outright tool watch with a consistently higher rating of water resistance.
