Rolex Zenith Daytona 'Patrizzi" 16520
The Rolex Daytona is a story everybody knows. This Specific Rolex Zenith Daytona 16520 is fitted with the Mark IV dial that is nicknamed the 'Patrizzi Dial' for it's discoloration on the counters from age. The black dial Daytona's with this dial have Zapon, which is an organic varnish that over time does not protect the dial well which leads them turning into a brown. The sub-dials oxidize to a brown hue. This dial is very sought after by collectors for it was only made for a couple years and not all of these dials have aged well or at all.
The specific name 'Patrizzi' came from Mr. Osvaldo Patrizzi who was an Italian auctioneer and founder of Antiquorum. Mr. Patrizzi was the first person to point out this patina on the dial back in 2005 when he was auctioning a 16520.
