The Omega Speedmaster Tokyo 2020 “Blue” Ref. 522.30.42.30.03.001 is one of five special Speedmasters created to commemorate the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and Omega’s role as Official Timekeeper. Originally released exclusively for the Japanese market, the Blue edition was limited to just 2,020 individually numbered pieces. Its classic 42mm stainless steel Speedmaster case is paired with a sun-brushed blue dial and contrasting opaline silver chronograph subdials, creating a striking blue-panda configuration reminiscent of the sought-after Speedmaster Gemini IV. Rhodium-plated hands, beveled 18k white-gold applied indexes, a red Speedmaster signature, and a red-tipped chronograph seconds hand add subtle color and depth. A blue anodized aluminum tachymeter bezel surrounds the dial, while a box-form sapphire crystal, stainless steel bracelet, and 50 meters of water resistance complete the package. The solid caseback is embossed with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games emblem and the watch’s individual limited-edition number.

Inside is Omega’s manually wound Calibre 1861, the legendary Moonwatch movement descended from the chronograph calibers used during NASA’s Apollo-era lunar missions. The 18-jewel movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and delivers approximately 48 hours of power reserve, driving central chronograph seconds, a 30-minute counter, 12-hour counter, and running small seconds. Unlike many later commemorative Speedmasters, the Tokyo 2020 series retains the traditional hand-wound 1861 architecture that defined the Speedmaster Professional for decades. With its Japan-only release, production of only 2,020 examples, vibrant blue-and-silver dial, Olympic caseback, and classic Calibre 1861, the 522.30.42.30.03.001 has become one of the more distinctive and collectible limited-edition Speedmasters from the final years of the pre-3861 Moonwatch era.
